Fair Play Playground
Fair Play: an inclusive playground
- This playground was designed to be accessible to children with sensory or physical disabilities so that children of all abilities and needs are welcome and can play together side by side. The equipment includes ramps and rubberized surfaces for access, a supportive swing, a double slide, quiet spaces, and sensory play. The playground is used by students at Grace Center on school days, while welcoming the community for evening, weekend, and summer play.
- The playground was designed to include principles of inclusive play: be fair; be included; be independent; be safe; be active; and be comfortable.
- Funding for the playground included generous donations by the Lions Club of NE Minneapolis, a Hennepin County Youth Sports grant, the Italian American Club, LaMere Concrete & Construction, Marshall Concrete, and community members.
- Assembly of the playground included a combination of skilled volunteers (many from the NE Lions Club) and community members, guided by a supervisor.
